A Busy, Upcoming Season

Dear Parents,

I was in New York City recently attending a conference at Columbia University Teachers College and ended up being stranded by Hurricane Sandy! Fortunately, I was staying in the Upper West Side of Manhattan and the hotel did not lose power. It was very surreal and I documented some of my experiences for the students via email. I finally secured a flight out of JFK airport and arrived in Louisville around midnight on November 1. It is good to be back at Rock Creek this week and I look forward to traveling with Mrs. Peterson and Mr. Greener to Washington, D.C., November 11-13, for the Blue Ribbon School Award Ceremony. Let’s hope there are no unforeseen adventures on this trip!

Please take a few minutes to read the important information below.

Welcome Mrs. Felicia Ragland
Mrs. Ragland, whose daughter graduated from Christian Academy of Louisville High School (English Station) last year, joined the Rock Creek team as receptionist/office support. Mrs. Ragland recently retired from Hewlett Packard, and said she feels very blessed to be here. I believe all of us at Rock Creek are the ones blessed to have her! She looks forward to supporting our campus with her technology and business skills, and I certainly look forward to working with her. Felicia’s expertise will be a terrific addition to our campus. Be sure to stop by and introduce yourself.

Christmas at CAL – Great Success!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! In spite of the rainy weather we had a great turnout and over and over again I heard compliments of our families and students from the guests and vendors. We appreciate all of you who volunteered on a rainy day to support our school! Be sure to thank Bethany Vornholt and Erin Hartlage who chaired the event this year, and Megan Coultas, who was responsible for the Silent Auction.

Open House: Thursday, November 15, 6-8 p.m. – Volunteers Needed
We need more students! The small class size is very nice, but we need to see our classrooms filled to capacity (18 in grades 1-5). We need about 15 parent volunteers to serve as tour guides, so please say yes when you receive a call. You, our parents, are the best recruiting tool we have. Please invite your family, friends, and co-workers to visit Open House. Here is a link to the Rock Creek Open House commercial that began airing on Friday, Oct. 26, on HGTV, ABC Family Channel, Nickelodeon, and Lifetime in select zip codes. Enjoy!

Blue Ribbon School Celebration: Friday, November 16, 6-7:30 p.m.
It is an honor to celebrate this prestigious award with our families and staff. Join us for grilled burgers and hot dogs, corn hole, a bouncy, face painting, s’mores, and lots of fun! At 6:30 there will be a brief ceremony to honor the teachers and students for this wonderful achievement. Please respond to Dawn Shouse if you plan to attend or are able to serve as a volunteer that evening. Here are a few needs for that evening:

  • Parents to grill
  • Two small portable firepits
  • Volunteers to help serve and supervise
