Block Scheduling for 2014-2015

High rigor and high relevance is the type of instruction we want to see in our middle school. Instruction where students are the primary talkers, thinkers and doers. Instruction where students actively construct and revise. Instruction where students acquire new knowledge by discovering relationships, solving problems, constructing explanations and drawing conclusions. Last fall, in an effort to enhance this type of instruction as well as strengthen Biblical Integration in the classroom, a committee was formed to examine how we could increase instructional time from our current 43 minute periods. After lengthy research, discussions and visits to other schools, the committee has recommended that we move to 90 minute periods for the 2014-2015 school year. What does this mean for your child? The opportunity to go deeper into a subject. The opportunity for discovery. The opportunity for your child to confront compelling, contemporary issues and connect with fellow students in a time frame that promotes engagement. Below is an example student schedule. Our six core classes (Bible, Language Arts, Literature, Math, Science and Social Studies) will meet every other day for 90 minutes each. Our elective courses will remain 43 minutes and meet daily. We are excited about raising our challenge level and giving our students more uninterrupted instructional time. There will be an informational meeting for parents on Monday, April 21 from 6-7 p.m. in the auditorium to address any questions. Thank you for letting us partner with you in the education of your child. God bless!
