How did you come to CAL? I coached as the assistant under Bill Gray. When the head coaching position opened up I applied.

What do you love most about coaching baseball? I don’t know anything different. I love a new season, the sign of spring, the smell of the’s a game I’ve always loved. I don’t know if I could stop.

How do you try to be distinctive as a team? I tell my players that because they have a cross on their chest they are representing Christ. We have a higher standard of excellence, in how we behave, and how we walk.

Outside of baseball, how do you spend your time? Chasing my kids around. Basically anything centered around my family.

How can the game of baseball be used to disciple your players? Jesus dying on the cross was the biggest sacrifice. Baseball requires sacrifice. There are a lot of plays where as a player you must give up yourself for the good of the team. It’s not going to show up in the scorebook, it’s not going to be a big wow factor, but it is necessary to be successful and win the game.

What is your biggest goal in building your baseball program? When I leave CAL I would like to leave something that the school can be proud of and do it in a Godly manner.

Is there anything you would like people to know about CAL baseball? Come out and watch us. It is a different atmosphere then in past years. We have night games with music and it is a lot of fun. Plus, the kids really enjoy the fan support.
