Do We Give God our Leftovers?

Continuing with our “Loving God Passionately” theme, Dr. Shell shared a great example of the opposite of passion. He called Mrs. Greener, Mrs. Melhorn and Mrs. Morrow up to the front and gave them each a cup of coffee. Mrs. Greener received an iced pumpkin latte, Mrs. Morrow received a hot pumpkin latte and poor Mrs. Melhorn received yesterday’s leftover latte.

He challenged us with this thought, “Do we give God our leftovers? After we have had a fun week, do we go to church with solemn, tired faces?” If we do, we are not showing passion for Christ.

Revelation 3 is like a pep talk by a coach to his team, but in this case Jesus is giving the Churches a pep talk. He tells them what they are doing well and what they need to work on, but when He speaks of the Church in Laodicea, He has not one good thing to say. In fact, He calls them lukewarm and says, “So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.”

Enthusiastic in Latin means full of God and that is what we should be when we go to worship. We need to put all of ourselves in our worship to show our passion for Him, not just give him our leftover lattes.
