U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has recognized Christian Academy of Louisville – Rock Creek Elementary as one of only 269 schools nationwide – and the only school in Louisville – to be designated a 2012 National Blue Ribbon School.
Only 417 schools may be nominated for the award across the country, with nominations provided by the top education officials in every state, and private schools being nominated by the Council for American Private Education. Rock Creek Elementary is one of 50 private schools in the nation to receive this honor. There are more than 100,000 schools in the United States, and only one quarter of one percent of the schools were named 2012 Blue Ribbon Schools.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools that meet one of two criteria: high performance or dramatic improvement. Christian Academy of Louisville – Rock Creek Elementary was honored by excelling in the high performance category, with standardized test scores in reading and math, placing Rock Creek Elementary among the top-performing schools in the nation.
“Many factors contribute to academic success; viable curriculum, high expectations, and parent and community involvement are just a few, but this award is a direct result of the professional level of instruction that takes place in our classrooms every day. I salute the teachers and the students for this honorable achievement,” stated Maribeth Thomas, principal of Rock Creek Elementary.
Christian Academy of Louisville – Rock Creek Elementary is the second school in the Christian Academy School System to receive the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School Award within two years. Christian Academy of Louisville – English Station High School received the award in 2010, and was the only Kentucky high school to be honored as such that year.
Superintendent Tim Greener noted, “Academic excellence has been a priority at Christian Academy School System since we began over 35 years ago. We spend significant time and resources investing in teachers, students and curriculum to ensure we are delivering the best Christian education possible. God has richly blessed Christian Academy, and we are honored and humbled to receive this recognition.”
