Summer Reading Celebrates with Silly Safaris

Christian Academy School System | Amazon John from Silly Safaris

On Friday, August 23, the Elementary Library celebrated our “Wild About Books” summer reading program, an animal-based theme. A Christian Academy of Louisville family, The Snyders, came across Amazon John from Silly Safaris at their public library. They knew he would be the perfect speaker for our celebration.

Silly Safaris is the leading provider of live animal conservation education in Indiana and provides over 3,000 conservation inspiring live animal shows every year throughout the United States. (The mission of Silly Safaris is to create positive human-animal interactions that inspire responsible pet ownership and wild animal conservation.)

There was a dog, frog, toad, kinkajou, rabbit, owl, lizard and even a snake! All students were able to pet them on the way out of the auditorium at the end of the program. We really enjoyed going through the summer reading packets and seeing what the students did over the summer. There were 235 students who completed the entire summer reading map and were invited to the library or courtyard for lunch with the librarians. This was a record number of students who came to lunch. Mrs. Cabal’s third grade class had the most with 14 students.
